Jobs & Right-to-Work Data from Opportunity Ohio

This week Opportunity Ohio released new data on job growth in right-to-work states versus forced unionization states.  Since 1990, Ohio’s private sector has only increased by 7.5 percent, or about 0.32 percent each year.  In contrast, the average worker freedom state grew 42.7 percent over the same time period.  The average right-to-work state grew nearly three times the average forced unionization state, which added 15.6 percent more jobs since 1990.  The bottom 16 states […]

We repeat our assertion that Ohio politicians would do better working on ways to make Ohio’s economy more prosperous and competitive rather than pushing counterproductive crony policies like Medicaid/Obamacare expansion.

Ohio needs items such as:

Kasich’s Ohio Jobs Debacle

In a recent op-ed published in the Akron Beacon Journal, “Kasich and Jobs: Not working,” Matt Mayer of Opportunity Ohio explains how Gov. John Kasich’s loud and self-congratulatory speeches about an alleged “Ohio Miracle” distract from the truth that private sector job creation has all but stalled here in America’s seventh largest state. Consider:

From June 2012 through March 2013, Ohio added only 3700 private sector jobs.
Since the start of 2013, Ohio has lost a […]

Ohio Still Down 266,918 Jobs This Recession

It gets harder and harder to listen to politicians talk about what wonderful things they are doing for Ohio. Governor Kasich congratulated himself again and again on the stump during the 2012 election season about his success in getting Ohioans back to work. Many of his pals from the statehouse parroted those same talking points.

In recent testimony over Governor Kasich’s proposals to expand Medicaid/Obamacare in Ohio, a recurring theme among those asking for help […]

Struggling Ohioans need prosperity not dependence and debt

Governor Kasich likes to quote the Bible to justify his proposals to voluntarily expand Medicaid in Ohio. He tries to sell the idea that expanding Medicaid in lockstep with Obamacare is somehow moral or compassionate to those in need. However, causing as many as 1 out of 4 Ohioans to become dependent on fraud ridden, poorly performing, government healthcare and imposing more entitlement debt on our children and grandchildren is neither compassionate nor moral.

For […]

State Auditor Issues Subpoena to Kasich’s JobsOhio

The Columbus Dispatch reported today that on Wednesday, Ohio’s State Auditor, Dave Yost, issued a subpoena to Governor Kasich’s prized job-creation entity, JobsOhio.

The article notes that questions have arisen about how much taxpayer money has gone into JobsOhio which is structured as a private corporation.

Other questions have to do with the state auditor’s role in auditing private entities that receive taxpayer money such as JobsOhio.

In a recent letter, Auditor Yost stated he had authority […]

Governor Kasich’s Reply on Right-to-Work

Recently, an Ohio liberty group member sent an email to governor Kasich asking him about supporting a right-to-work law for Ohio. In 2012, border-states Indiana and Michigan passed workplace freedom laws allowing most individuals in those states the freedom to decide whether or not to join a union. Since 2009, workplace freedom states have added jobs at four times the pace of forced union states. This competitive advantage in favor of neighboring states puts […]
