Chicago, Illinois, August 14, 2017

On Saturday President Trump at a press conference stated unequivocally that “We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides,” His emphasis on many sides was on target, because the instigators of anarchy and violence in the public domain have been Left-leaning protesters in recent combative and violent events.  The Leftist protestors assembled unlawfully under the guise of equality and call anything that does not agree with their narrative hate speech. Which they deem unacceptable and threatening to the helpless while trying to legitimatize their lawless actions. Just an aside the city of Charlottesville, VA, was named after a Black woman, British Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz link.

I do not support the views of Jason Kessler, the organizer of the “UNITE THE RIGHT” rally. However, he obtained a city permit to hold a peaceful rally to protest the lawful removal of the statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park formerly known as Lee Park since 1920. The protest was labeled a pro-white, and white supremacist rally, by the mainstream media and Leftist protest groups.  An interesting fact is that the Leftist protestors (per City of Charlottesville representative) did not have a city permit to assemble for a rally on Saturday.

The City of Charlottesville had a responsibility to protect the United the Right rally attendees, as it would similar group(s).  By the way the American Civil Liberties Union and I agree on this one, which is rare! The protesters were seen physically confronting, and initiating violence against the legally assembled rally attendees.

In America, while, we may not agree with the agenda of the “United the Right” attendees or others, but their constitutional right of free speech cannot be denied.  As a Naval ROTC midshipman during the anti-Vietnam war in the 70’s on campus of The University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, I tolerated people calling me “baby killer” and other names, but spitting or touching me, elicited a response to protect myself from harm or humiliation.

The Constitution of United States under the First Amendment protects free speech, and is not debatable at this time. We cannot continue to tolerate and ignore the anarchy and violence of the anti-Trump, social justice protesters. Over the last 12 months Left-leaning paid/professional protesters, commit assault and battery, and arson against those with opposing views. The law enforcement agencies have been unresponsive, while witnessing crimes committed against law-abiding citizens and property.

In my opinion, the “Unite the Right” rally people who were under attack by the Leftists protesters should have defended themselves by any means necessary. The violence against people and destruction of property is solely perpetrated by the Left-leaning protesters.  In our cities from Seattle to Miami we have seen the anarchy perpetrated by Left-leaning groups. It is time for Americans to demand that our leaders, the mainstream media, and law enforcement regain control of our streets, and enforce civility in the public domain and discourse moving forward.

President Trump got it right the first time, “many sides” have been engaged in violence. However, it has been the “in your face” combative confrontations of the “Leftists” that have precipitated the violent engagements. During the decades of the civil rights movement, we have never experienced the level or scale of open vitriol, and lawlessness shown by the Leftist groups of today.  We can have disagreement without violence, we worked through more difficult times in this country than the election of a POTUS. It must be stopped before more Americans are killed in senseless violence exercising their First Amendment rights.
